The past of this city

Like every other city in this state, Bundi too has its own story to tell. It was originally the place where a lot of indigenous people from Rajasthan lived. They were divided into many tribal groups, and one such group which held sway over this region was the PariharMeena. They had a king named Bunda, and it was after him that this region was called Bunda-ka-naal. Naal in the local language meant narrow ways, and this name is rather suitable for this place since the old region had various narrow alleys and pathways, some of which are even found in the city today. This region passed many hands before it finally emerged as the flourishing city of Bundi. Bundi and Kota were named as two states on two banks of the Chambal, and after independence in 1947, both these two states were assigned the status of cities within the state of Rajasthan.
